Smith, William Alexander
agriculturist, state senator, congressman, was born Jan. 9, 1828, in North Carolina. He was a member of the secession convention of North Carolina in 1861. He was a representative in the state legislature in 1864; was a member of the constitutional convention in 1865; and was a member of the state senate in 1870. He was president of the North Carolina railroad, and of the Yadkin River railroad; and was a representative from North Carolina to the forty-third congress as a republican. on
