Smith, Oliver Hampton

lawyer, congressman, United States senator, author, was born Oct. 23, 1794, near Trenton, N. J. In 1824 he was prosecuting attorney for the third district of Indiana; and was elected to the state legislature in 1822. He was a representative in congress from Indiana from 1827 to 1829; and was a senator in congress from 1837 to 1848. He was the author of a work giving his hecollections of Congressional.

Life; and Early Indian Trials. He died March 19, 1859, in Indianapolis, Ind.
