Smith, Charles Emory
journalist, was born Feb. 18, 1842, in Mansfield, Conn.
He became editor of the Albany Express in 1865, and of the Albany Journal in 1870, and since 1880 has conducted the Philadelphia Press. He was president of the New York State Press association in 1874, and delivered the annual address at its meeting. He was a regent of the university of the state of New York in 1879- 80; and a delegate to the national republican conventions in 1876 and in 1888.
