Slemmer, Adam J
soldier, was born in 1828, in Montgomery county, Pa. In 1850 he graduated from West Point; served in the Seminole, Mexican and civil wars. He attained the rank of brigadier-general of volunteers in 1862; and took an active part in the battle of Murfreesboro. From 1863 to the close of the war he served on an examining board as its president. He won the brevets of colonel and brigadier-general in the United States army in 1865; and spent the balance of his life in command at Fort Laramie, Kas., where he died Oct. 7, 1868.
