Simms, Joseph
physiognomist, lecturer, author, was born Sept. 3, 1833, in Plainfield Center, N. Y. He received his education at the academy of West Winfield, N. Y.; and has attained success and a world-wide reputation as a lecturer on physiognomy. During 1854-84 he delivered lectures in all parts of the world, his principal lecture being How to Rise in the World. He taught school in New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and Illinois, later studied medicine and surgery, and practiced his profession for a short time. During 1854-84 he lectured on physiognomy and physiology with marked success in all parts of the world. He is the author of a Physiognomical Chart; Nature's Revelations of Character; Book of Scientific Lectures; Health and Character; Practical and Scientific Physiognomy; and other works.
