Scott, Harvey W
journalist, was born Feb. 1, 1838, near Peoria, Ill. He received the rudiments of his education in various schools in Oregon, and graduated from the Pacific university. In 1864 he moved to Portland, Ore., intending to follow the profession of law, but took up writing for the press. Since 1865 he has been the editor of The Oregonian, the leading daily newspaper of that state. To this publication he has since devoted his attention. He is a clear and forcible writer, and a man of executive ability and untiring energy.
