Shirk, Milton Smith
educator, clergyman, college president, was born Nov. 29, 1818, in Butler county, Ohio.
For sixty years he has been successfully engaged as a teacher in the various grades of school, and for fifty years he has been engaged in the ministry in various cities, and at the Coliseum Place Baptist church of New Orleans, La. He received his education in the Miami university and the Granville college, Ohio; and was a graduate of the Madison university of Hamilton, N. Y. He has been president of the Pearl River institute, president of the Amite Female seminary, Mississippi, and the Shreveport university, Louisiana.
