Schanck, John Stilwell

physician, educator, was born Feb. 24, 1817. He received his education in the schools of Middletown a n d Freehold, N. J.; then at the celebrated academy at Lenox, Mass.; and in 1840 graduated at the Princeton college of New Jersey. In 1843 he received his medical degree from the university of Pennsylvania, and practiced medicine from that time in Princeton, N. J. For nearly fifty years he has delivered a course of lectures on anatomy, physiology and zoölogy in the Princeton college; and from 1856-93 he also filled the chair of chemistry in the same institution. He has served that noted college under four presidents with great distinction.
