Saffold, Reuben

soldier, lawyer, jurist, was born Sept. 4, 1788, in Wilkes county, Ga. During the Indian troubles he commanded a volunteer company, and he subsequently served several terms in the legislature of Mississippi territory.

He was made a circuit judge, and was one of the three judges that were appointed to the supreme bench in 1832, serving as chief justice in 1835-36. He died Feb. 15, 1847, in Dallas county, Ala.

SAFFORD, A. P. K., governor. He was governor of the territory of Arizona from 1870 to 1878.
