Reynolds, Robert J
legislator, governor, was born March 17, 1838, in Smyrna, Del. In 1868 he was elected to the Delaware general assembly; was elected state treasurer in 1869, and reelected to the same office in 1871. He was chairman of the democratic state central committee; and chairman of the state committee in numerous campaigns. On Jan. 20, 1891, he was inaugurated governor of Delaware; and for four years filled that office with distinction. Governor Reynolds has been in politics for over thirty years, and has never lost a political battle. Since 1861 he has principally been engaged in farming near Petersburg, Del.; has extensive peach orchards, and is a successful farmer and fruit grower.
