Remington, Frederic

author, artist, was born in 1861 in New York. He is a popular artist and illustrator, whose work in the main reflects the life of the far west. He is the author of Pony Tracks.

REMINGTON, HENRY WILLIAMS, merchant, lawyer, legislator, was born Aug. 9, 1823, in Lorain county, Ohio. He has been prosecuting attorney; chairman of town board of supervisors; a member of the Wisconsin state legislature; president of the Wisconsin Valley railroad; appraiser of school and university lands for the state of Wisconsin in 1851; and has been a successful lawyer, farmer, merchant and railroad builder. He has done much work in land surveying for the state of Wisconsin and for private individuals.

He is best known as a writer and speaker on political and judicial questions. In 1854 he set in motion at Madison, Wis., a movement which resulted in closing saloons on election and other public days in Wisconsin, which movement has since spread to other states.
