Randolph, Peyton
lawyer, state legislator, congressman, was born in 1721 in Williamsburg, Va. In 1756 he was appointed king's attorney for the colony of Virginia, and held the office for many years. In 1766 he was elected speaker of the house of burgesses; and in 1773 was a member of the committee on correspondence. He was a delegate to the continental congress from 1774 to 1775, and was the first president of that body. He died Oct. 22, 1775, in Philadelphia, Pa.
