Preston, James Patton
soldier, governor, was born in 1774 in Montgomery county, Va. For many years he was postmaster of the city of Richmond; and was governor of Virginia from 1816 to 1819. He died May 4, 1843, in Smithfield, Va.
PRESTON, MRS. MARGARET [JUN- KIN], author, poet, was born in 1825 in Philadelphia, Pa. She was a poet and prose writer of Lexington, Va., and later of Baltimore; and the author of Old Song and New; Beechenbrook, a Rhyme of the War; Colonial Ballads, Sonnets, and Other Verse; For Love's Sake; The Young Ruler's Question; Silverwood, a novel; and A Handful of Monographs.
