Pool, John
lawyer, United States senator, was born June 16, 1826, in Pasquotank county, N. C. He was elected to the North Carolina state senate in 1856 and 1858; and was again chosen to the state senate as a peace candidate. He took a leading part in the movements for peace.
He was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1865, and was again elected to the senate.
In 1865 he was elected a senator in congress from North Carolina, but was not admitted; and in 1868 was re-elected to the same position for the term ending in 1873. He died Aug. 1.8, 1884, in Washington, D. C.
