Pease, Edward M
lawyer, state legislator, governor, was born in Connecticut. He was secretary of the general council of the provincial government of Texas in 1835-36; then became chief clerk of the navy department, and afterward chief clerk of the treasury department of the Texas government. In 1836 he was clerk of the judiciary committee of the house of representatives of Texas. 1837 he became comptroller of public accounts of Texas, and in 1846 was elected a representative in the Texas legislature.
He was re-elected in 1848 and 1850, and in 1853 was elected governor of Texas, and was re-elected in 1855. He was provisional governor, by appointment, from 1867 to 1869. He died in 1883.
