Nicholas, Wilson Cary

soldier, United States senator, governor, born about 1757 in Hanover, Va. He was governor of Virginia; was an officer in the war of the revolution, and a member of the convention which ratified the constitution of the United States. He was a distinguished member of the senate of the United States from 1799 to 1804; and of the national house of representatives from 1807 to 1809. In 1804 he resigned his seat in the senate, and accepted the office of collector of the ports of Norfolk and Portsmouth. He was afterward again a member of the house, but resigned his seat in 1809. In 1814 he was governor, and remained in office until 1817. died Oct. 10, 1820, in Milton, Ohio.
