lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Nov. 28, 1830, in Vernon, Ind. He was elected district prosecuting attorney of Indiana in 1862, and served two years. He was elected judge of common pleas in 1864, and served four years. He was elected a representative from Indiana to the forty-fourth and forty-sixth congresses as a democrat. eighteenth general assemblies of the state of Iowa. In 1876 he was elected lieutenant-governor; and was governor of Iowa in 1877 and 1878. He held a number of county offices, and practiced law at Mt.
Pleasant.
