Morris, Edward Joy
legislator, diplomat, congressman, author, was born July 15, 1815, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a member of the house of representatives of Pennsylvania in 1841-43; and was elected to the twenty-eighth congress as representative from the first congressional district. On his return to Philadelphia he was chosen a member of the board of directors of Girard college; and in 1856 was again elected to the state legislature.
In the fall of that year he was elected to the thirty-fifth congress. He was the author of A Tour Through Turkey, Greece and Egypt; The Turkish Empire, Social and Political; Afraja, or Life and Love in Norway; and Corsica, Social and Political. He died Dec. 31, 1881, in Philadelphia, Pa.
