Moorhead, James Kennedy

congressman, was born Sept. 7, 1806, in Halifax, Pa. In 1836 he moved to Pittsburg, Pa.; there took an active part in improving the navigation of the Monongahela. He was made president of a company bearing that name, and established in that city the Union Cotton factory. In 1838 he received the militia title of adjutant-general. In 1859 he was elected a representative from Pennsylvania to the thirty-sixth congress; and was reelected to the thirty-seventh, thirtyeighth, thirty-ninth, and fortieth congresses as a republican. He died March 6, 1884, in Pittsburg, Pa.
