Mcgarvey, John William
educator, clergyman, college president, author, was born March 1, 1829, in Hopkinsville, Ky. He received his education at the Bethany college of W. Va.; and in 1865 was elected to the professorship of the Kentucky university of Lexington. 1895 he became president of the College of the Bible, and professor of sacred history. In 1879 he visited Palestine, and is the author of Lands of the Bible; Commentaries on Matthew, Mark, and Acts; "Text and Canon of the New Testament; Credibility and Inspiration of the New *Testament; and a Volume of Sermons.
