Mastin, Claudius Henry

surgeon, was born June 4, 1826, in Huntsville, Ala.

In 1849 he graduated from the medical department at the university of Pennsylvania; and the following year went abroad, studying in Edinborough, Paris and London. On his return he settled in Mobile, Ala., where he has since practiced, chiefly as a surgeon. During the civil war he served as a surgeon in the confederate army. In 1883 he was vice-president of the American Surgical association. He has invented several surgical instruments, and contributed largely to medical journals.
