Martin, John
lawyer, governor, United States senator, was born Nov. 12, 1833, in Wilson county, Tenn. In 1857-58 he was postmaster at Tecumseh, Kan.; in 1858-อะ was county attorney; and in 1873 he was elected to the Kansas state legislature from Topeka; and received the reelection the following year. In 1876 he was elected governor of Kansas. In 1883 he was appointed a district judge, and subsequently received the election to that office. In 1893 he was elected to the United States senate to fill a vacancy, and served during 1893-95.
