Macdonald, John L
soldier, lawyer, jurist, state senator, congressman, was born in 1838, in Scotland. He was judge of the probate court of Scott county, Minn. During the war of the rebellion he was commissioned to enlist and muster in volunteers for the union army, and served in that capacity. He was a member of the state house of representatives, 1869-70; and a member of the state senate in 1871-76. In 1876 he was elected judge of the eighth judicial district of Minnesota for the term of seven years, and was re-elected without opposition in 1883, resigning in the fall of 1886. He was elected to the fiftieth congress as a democrat.
