Lumpkin, Wilson
lawyer, governor, United States senator, was born Jan. 14, 1783, in Pittsylvania county, Va. He was twice elected governor of Georgia; served in the federal house of representatives from 1815 to 1817, and from 1827 to 1831.
In 1823 he was appointed to mark out. the boundary line between Georgia and Florida. He was appointed a commissioner under the Cherokee treaty of 1835; was also a member of the board of public works, and was a senator in congress from 1837 to 1841. He died Dec. 28, 1870,. in Athens, Ga.
