Delphi, Ind. He entered the military service as a private soldier in the fourteenth Iowa infantry, and in 1863 was promoted to the captaincy of the company. He was chief clerk of the Iowa house of representatives, the seventeenth and eighteenth sessions; and was mayor of Mason City, Iowa. He was elected auditor of the state in 188v. He moved to the then territory of Dakota in 1883, at Chamberlain, and engaged in farming. In 1887 he was elected treasurer of Brule county, and before his term expired was appointed commandant of the Soldiers' home at Hot Springs, S. D., where he moved in 1890, and was elected as a republican to the fifty-third congress.
