Leighty, Jacob D
soldier, congressman, was born Oct. 15, 1839, in Westmoreland county, Pa. He was a private in company E, eleventh Indiana volunteer infantry; and was promoted to second lieutenant and afterward to first lieutenant. Returning home he engaged in general merchandising, and is interested in several manufacturing enterprises. He was elected to the Indiana house of representatives in 1886; and elected in 1894 to the fifty-fourth congress as a republican. In 1897 he was appointed United States pension agent for Indiana.
