Key, John C
soldier, lawyer, legislator, railroad president, was born Feb. 25, 1826, in Jasper, Va. During the war he was captain of company B, forty-fourth Georgia regiment; was promoted to major; and was with the army of northern Virginia to the close of the war. He has attained success in his profession of law at Monticello, Ga.; was a representative in the Georgia state legislature in 1859-60, and again in 1882-83; and in 1887 was a member of the state constitutional convention. He is the president of the Covington and Macon Railroad company; a royal arch mason; an advocate for a strict construction of the powers of congress under the constitution of the United States; and a consistent temperance advocate.
