Kerr, Michael Crawford
lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born March 15, 1827, near Titusville, Pa. In 1856 he was elected for two years to the Indiana state assembly; and in 1862 was elected reporter to the supreme court of the state, and published five volumes. In 1864 he was elected a representative from Indiana to the thirty-ninth congress, and was reelected to the fortieth, forty-first and forty-second congresses. Having been re-elected to the forty-fourth congress, was the choice of his party for speaker, and was duly elected. He died Aug. 20, 1876, in Alum Springs, Va.
