Kearney, Philip
soldier, was born June 2, 1815, in New York city. He served with distinction through the Mex-- ican war, and lost his left arm. During the civil war he made general general of volunteers; and subsequently attained the rank of major-gen-- eral. He was killed in battle Sept. 1, 1862, near Chantilly, Va.
His remains were sent by Gen. Lee under a flag of truce to Gen. Hooker, and being embalmed were transferred to New York and buried in the Watts vault in Trinity churchyard.
