Kelley, John Edward
journalist, legislator, was born March 27, 1853, in Columbia county, Wis. He received his education at the public schools of Wisconsin, and from private instructors. In 1891 he was elected a member of the South Dakota legislature; and became a leader of the independents during that session. In 1892 he was nominated for congress by the people's party; and made a brilliant campaign; was renominated for congressman at large in 1894; again in 1896, when he was successful.
