Juengling, Frederick

JULIAN, GEORGE WASHINGTON, lawyer, congressman, was born May 5, 1817, in Centreville, Ind. In 1845 he was elected to the legislature of Indiana; and was a representative in congress from Indiana from 1849 to 1851. In 1852 he was nominated by the Pittsburg convention for office of vice-president of the United States. In 1860 he was elected a representative from Indiana to the thirty-seventh congress; and in 1862 was re-elected to the thirty-eighth congress. He was reelected to the thirty-ninth, fortieth and forty-first congresses as a republican. He was surveyor-general of New Mexico in 1885. He is the author of Speeches on Political Questions; Political Recollections from 1840-72; and Life of Joshua Giddings.
