Jones, William Atkinson

lawyer, congressman, was born March 21, 1849, in Warsaw, Va. He entered the Virginia Military institute, where he remained until the evacuation of Richmond, serving as occasion required with the cadets in the defense of that city. He entered the academic department of the university of Virginia, from which institution he was graduated with the degree of B. L. in 1870. He was admitted to the bar in July, 1870, and has continued to practice law since; was a delegate at large from his state to the national democratic convention in 1896; and was chairman of the Virginia delegation in that body. He was elected to the fifty-second, fifty-third, and fifty-fourth congresses, and re-elected to the fifty-fifth congress as a democrat.
