Jones, Joseph Russel

merchant, was born Feb. 17, 1823, in Conneaut, Ohio.

In 1860 he was elected as a republican to the general assembly from the counties of Jo Daviess and Carroll. In 1861 he was appointed United States marshal for the northern district of Illinois. He organized the Chicago West Division Railway Co. in 1863, and was elected its president. He retired practically from business in 1888, but is yet a director of the Chicago and the Central Union Telephone Co's and the Central Music Hall Co., and president of the Northwestern Horse Nail Manufacturing Co.
