Jones, George S
soldier, educator, journalist, lawyer, was born June 12, 1840, near Jonesville, Va. During the civil war he served nearly three years in the union army; was wounded in action, captured on the field with a broken leg, and for a long time confined in the Andersonville war prison. He served one term as a justice of the peace; founded three newspapers; and taught school for nearly thirty years. In 1876 he was the nominee of the democratic party for congress; and served in the United States pension office at Washington under President Cleveland's first administration. In 1866 he began the study of law, and now practices his profession in Manilla, Ind., where he is the editor and owner of the Rush County Mail.
