Jenkins, Charles Jones
lawyer, jurist, congressman, governor, was born Jan. 6, 1805, in Beaufort, S. C. He served several terms as a representative in the state legislature, four terms as speaker of the house, and in 1831 was elected attorney-general of the state. He was a judge of the supreme court of the southern confederacy, and in 1865 was elected governor of Georgia for the term of two years. He died June 14, 1883, in Somerville, Ga.
