James, Darwin R

merchant, banker, congressman, was born May 14, 1834. in Williamsburg, Mass. He was one of the founders of a dispensary; one of the founders and treasurer of the bureau of charities of Brooklyn, and served six years as park commissioner. He became a director in a Marine Insurance company; secretary of the New York board of trade and transportation, and a member of the executive committee of the New York Anti-Monopoly league. He was elected a representative from New York to the forty-eighth, and was re-elected to the forty-ninth congress as a republican.
