Hunt, William Henry

educator, lawyer, jurist, lecturer, born June 12, 1824, in Charleston, S. C. He was acting professor and lecturer on commercial and criminal law in the university of Louisiana in 1865 and 1866; and in 1876 was appointed attorney-general of Louisiana to fill a vacancy. He was subsequently elected to that office, serving until 1877. In 1878 he was appointed a judge of the United States court of claims; resigned in 1881, to become secretary of the navy in the cabinet of President Garfield. He died Feb. 27, 1884.
