Hummer, George Pierson

educator, business man, political economist, was born Dec. 25, 1856, in Belvidere, N. J.

After graduating from the Northern Indiana Normal school, he became superintendent of public schools of Holland, Mich., which position he filled for seven years.

He then organized and became the manager of the West Michigan Furniture company, one of the largest manufacturers of furniture in the United States. He took a leading part in behalf of bimetallism in the presidential campaign of 1896, and became a candidate for congress on the state ticket, but was defeated. He has always taken an active part in the political affairs of his state, and has gained a good reputation as a political economist.
