Hubbard, Richard Bennet

soldier, lawyer, governor, United States senator, was born Nov. 1, 1832, in Walton county, Ga. He was a delegate to the democratic national convention of 1856; was United States district attorney from 1856 to 1858; and was a representative in the Texas state legislature in 1858. He was a colonel in the confederate army.

In 1874 he was elected lieutenant-governor of Texas, and was ex-officio president of the state senate. In 1876, by the election of Governor Coke to the United States senate, he became governor of the state, serving as such until 1879.
