Hoyt, Mark
merchant, was born May 5, 1835, in Stamford, Conn. In 1868 Mr. Hoyt engaged in the brokerage business under the name of Mark Hoyt and Company, but relinquished this in 1870 to return to the firm of Hoyt Brothers, of which he is now the head. He was the leading spirit in the organization of the United States Leather company, which is a consolidation of the chief tanning interests of the country for a continuation of the business. It is believed that in actual value of its properties, this company is superior to any other in the United States. He became its first vice-president upon incorporation in May, 1893.
