Hammond, Henry B

lawyer, railroad president, was born Feb. 18, 1840, in Douglas, Mass. In 1861 he accepted the position of consul to Dublin , Ireland, and was instrumental in establishing the money-order system at present existing in the postoffice. In 1871 he became presibecame president of the Indiana and Illinois Central railroad.
