Hoyt, Francis Southack

educator, clergyman, journalist, author, was born Nov. 5, 1822, in Lyndon, Vt. From 1854 till 1860 he was president of Willamette university of Salem, Ore.; and from 1865 till 1872 was professor of biblical theology and literature in Ohio Wesleyan university. In 1872-81 he edited the Western Christian Advocate. He was a delegate to the general conferences of the methodist episcopal church in 1860, 1876, 1880, and 1884, and since 1884 has held the office of presiding elder. He has edited a revised edition of Angus's Bible Hand- Book.
