Howe, Daniel Wait
soldier, lawyer, jurist, genealogist, was born Oct. 24, 1839, in Patriot, Ind. In 1850 he removed to Franklin, and graduated from the scientific department of the college in that city. During the civil war he served as a union soldier in company H of the seventh regiment Indiana volunteer infantry; and afterward as lieutenant and captain of company I, seventyninth regiment Indiana volunteer infantry. He was discharged Nov. 10, 1864, in consequence of wounds received in the battle of Kennesaw. In 1867 he graduated from the Albany Law school; practiced law in Franklin, Ind.; and while there was city attorney and state prosecuting attorney. In 1873 he moved to Indianapolis; was judge of the superior court during 1876-90, since which time he has practiced his profession of law.
He is vice-president of the Indiana Historical society; the author of the Howe Genealogy; and one of the foremost lawyers of Indiana.
