Houk, George W
lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 25, 1825, in Cumberland county, Pa. For awhile he taught school. He was admitted to the bar in 1846; and practiced law in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1852-53 he was elected to the Ohio state legislature; and in 1860 was a delegate to the Charleston - Baltimore convention. In 1876 he was a delegate to the national republican convention; and in 1884 was district elector on the democratic presidential ticket. He was elected to the fifty-second congress as a democrat; and was re-elected to the fiftythird congress, but died before the expiration of his second term. His contributions to the press embraced a wide range of subjects. His wife has also attained prominence as an author.
