Hooker, Charles E
soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born in 1825 in Union District, S. C. He was elected district attorney in 1850. In 1859 he was elected a representative in the state legislature. He resigned to enter the confederate army in 1861, and rose to the rank of colonel. In 1865 he was elected attorney-general of Mississippi, and was re-elected in 1868. He was elected a representative from Mississippi to the fortyfourth, forty-fifth, forty-sixth, forty-seventh, fiftieth, fifty-first, fifty-second and fifty-third congresses as a democrat.
