Holman, William Steele

lawyer, congressman, was born Sept. 6, 1822, in Verdstown, Ind. He was a member of the convention to revise the constitution of Indiana in 1850; was a member of the state legislature in 1851; and was a judge of the court of common pleas from 1852 to 1856. He was elected a representative from Indiana to the thirty-sixth, thirtyseventh, thirty-eighth, fortieth, forty-first, forty-second, forty-third, forty-fourth, forty-seventh, forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fiftieth, fifty-first, fifty-second, fifty-third and fifty-fifth congresses as a democrat. He served more years in congress than any other member. He died April 22, 1897, in Washington, D. C.
