Hill, Isaac
journalist, governor, United States senator, was born Aug. 7, 1788, in Somerville, Mass. He was twice chosen clerk of the state senate; once a representative in the legislature; and was elected a member of the state senate in 1820, 1821, 1822 and 1827. In 1829 he was appointed second comptroller of the treasury, and held the office until 1830. He returned to New Hampshire, and was elected United States senator for six years, from 1831; in 1836 he resigned his senatorship, after being elected governor of New Hampshire; and was elected in 1837 and 1838.
