Hepburn, William Peters

soldier, lawyer, congressman, was born Nov. 4, 1833, in Wellsville, Ohio. He was elected prosecuting attorney of Marshall county in 1856; chief clerk of the state house of representatives in 1858; and district attorney of the eleventh judicial district of Ohio in the same year. He entered the Union army in 1861 as captain, and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He was a presidential elector in 1876; and was elected a representative from Iowa to the forty-seventh, forty-eighth, forty-ninth, fifty-third, fifty-fourth and fifty-fifth congresses as a republican.
