Hecker, Isaac Thomas

clergyman, author, was born Dec. 18, 1819, in New York city. He was a Roman catholic clergyman who in early life was one of the noted Brook Farm community. Becoming a Roman catholic he founded the Order of the Paulists in 1858. In 1865 he established The Catholic World, of which he remained the editor till his death. He was the author of Questions of the Soul; Aspirations of Nature; Catholicity in the United States; Catholics and Protestants Agreeing on the School Question; and The Church and the Age. He died Dec. 22, 1888, in New York city.
