Haymond, W. S

soldier, physician, railroad president, congressman, was born Feb. 20, 1823, in Harrison county, Va. county, Va.

In 1861 he entered the army as a surgeon, where he remained until 1863. He was elected president of the Indianapolis, Delphi and Chicago Railroad company in 1872, 1873 and 1874. In 1874 he was electwas elected a representative from Indiana to the forty-fourth congress.

soldier, state senator, was born Sept. 24, 1745, in South Caro- South Carolina. Early in the war he entered the service and became a captain of artillery, of artillery, and later was placed in command of a regiment of militia. He was elected a member of the state senate. He died Aug.

Haynes, Henry Williamson

educator, archæologist, author, was Sept. 20, 1831, in Bangor, Maine. The winter of 1877-78 he spent in Egypt, seek- Egypt, seeking for evidences of the palæolithic age age in that country. The results of his inveshis investigations were presented at the international congress of anthropological sciences that was held in Paris in 1878, in 1878, where he was rewarded with a medal and a diploma.

Haynes, John

governor, statesman, was born in England. In 1635 he became governor of Massachusetts. In 1637 he was prominent among the founders of Connecticut; was chosen its first govits first governor in 1639, and every alternate year afterward until his death. He died March 1, 1654.
